Ready for Christmas Shopping?

You might be thinking, “What are you talking about? It’s August 1st I’m not going Christmas shopping just yet.” It may not be the time of the year to start shelling out hundred-dollar bills from you wallet just yet but it sure is time for retailers to get a look on what they will be selling in the next couple of months. From a business standpoint, people will always need to buy products but not all the time. The truth is, it doesn’t seem like the retail sector of the economy is exactly booming.

As seen by this chart of the last month for the SPDR Retail Sector ETF, the Exchanged Trade Fund had a spike in its trading volumes on the July 4th weekend and is not doing just as well as it was early last month. As the retail sector slows, manufacturers and companies of the retail sector are trying to get consumers ready using marketing techniques that are creating hype for their new products that will enter the market this holiday season.

Let’s take a look at what a couple of the most popular companies have to offer including some special introductions that we thought we would never see again.

Cell Phones

This seems like something everyone looks forward to in the holiday season but this market seems to have been slowing down just a little bit due to the wide variety of cell phones in various shapes and sizes; but, that doesn’t stop companies like Apple, HTC, and Samsung from trying to beat their record sales from last year. As the Android Operating System takes over the cell phone market, competitors like Windows Phone and the notorious Apple are looking to fight their way to the top. Apple has announced their newest iOS 8 at the WWDC conference in June and it looks like that was enough to keep fans speculating and awaiting their newest hit. But the news of the purchase of Beats by Dr. Dre has kept fans excited for what Apple has in store. A leak from HTC suggests that there might be a Windows Phone based HTC One (M8) in store for us soon. HTC’s next press conference is on August 8th so we will just have to wait. Speaking of waiting, where’s Samsung? Questions remain as the cell phone giant is expected to introduce another big product to the market in order to entice customers like it did when the Samsung Galaxy S3 came out.

Flappy Bird??

Wait a second, didn’t this game go extinct? Well it looks like ingenious game creator Dong Nguyen has released his newest possible hit, Flappy Bird Family! The successor of the extremely famous game Flappy Bird had people going crazy back in February and the removal from the app market had depressed many fans and made the game even more interesting to play! People were even selling their phones for ridiculous amounts just because it had the original Flappy Bird on it. Sad part is that it will only be available on the Android App Market and the Amazon Fire TV. Nevertheless, Flappy Bird is back!

What about the rest of the retail sector?

Though not as exciting, the rest of the retail sector is looking to advance as well and make great strides this holiday season with higher profits. During this time, retailers, departments stores, warehouse companies, and manufacturers are all combining to bring the best products to you, the consumer, in the coming months. Orders have been placed and the process has begun. It’s time for retailers to get ready for the busiest time of the season.

With everyone’s respective holidays, the holiday season is a great time of year to spend time with family and get gifts from one another. The 2014 late fall and winter shopping season is coming soon meaning it’s time to start thinking about what you want on the holidays, even if it’s a couple months away. Are you ready for the shopping season? It seems like the retailers my be ready before you are.
